My go-to breakfast smoothie

I’m not the kind of person who has a smoothie every morning and most of the time I prefer something warm and comforting. But, that doesn't mean I don’t love a good smoothie every now and then. Smoothies are great for 3 main reasons:

  1. You can easily pack them FULL of nutrients

  2. They’re quick and easy to make

  3. They’re easy for your body to digest

So here’s my favorite smoothie recipe that’s packed with vitamins + minerals, fiber, healthy fats, protein and ALL the goods. This can be changed and catered to what you like so don’t feel like you need to follow it strictly.

  • 2 handfuls of greens

I love to use Organic Girl’s “Super Greens” but any leafy greens work.

  • 1 cup frozen fruit

I use a frozen fruit blend from Whole Foods that I LOVE! It’s called “Tropical Medley” and has a mix of banana, mangoes, pineapple and strawberries. Highly recommend! But any fruit works. Although, just a heads up, you won’t get that pretty green color if you use darker colored fruit, like blueberries.

  • 2 tbsp nut butter

I use Nuttzo’s “Power Fuel” nut butter because it tastes amazing and has a large variety of nuts + seeds, but use whatever you love.

  • 2 tbsp flax seeds

  • 2 tbsp hemp hearts

Hemp hearts are a great plant source of protein, but feel free to use your favorite protein powder in addition to hemp hearts or instead.

  • 1/2 tsp spirulina

One of my favorite “superfoods.” If you haven’t used this before, it’s a dark green powder and has MANY benefits -  it’s a nutrient powerhouse, helps remove toxins from your body, can boost the immune system (including fighting cancer), help lower blood pressure...and much more.

  • Water/ice or your favorite non-dairy milk

I use anywhere from ½ cup to 1 cup, but you can use as little or as much as you want depending on how thick you want the smoothie to be.

Hope you enjoy!
